Formative Research As A Strategy For Developing Research Competencies In Foreign Language University Students
Research skills are an essential and obligatory aspect of higher education institu-tions, as mandated by university regulations, necessitating the active involvement of all academic community members. A study project was undertaken to evaluate the association between the development of research competencies and formative research among students in the Foreign Languages professional program at a public university in Peru. The sample population comprised 232 students in this specialty, from which 59 students from the tenth cycle enrolled in the Research Workshop II course were selected using a non-probabilistic sampling approach. A transactional methodology was utilized alongside a non-experimental research framework. To guarantee the authenticity and trustworthiness of the acquired da-ta, two surveys were administered and underwent stringent processes. The results revealed a strong positive correlation between the variables, with a coefficient of Rho = 0.705, indicating a significant strength in this association. These results highlight the importance of formative research as a crucial element of higher edu-cation, especially in disciplines such as Foreign Languages, where research skills are vital for overcoming challenges in the academic and professional spheres. Therefore, it is imperative that higher education institutions persist in refining these processes to ensure that all students get the necessary abilities to make sig-nificant contributions in their respective fields.
