Digital Twins In Store Inventory and Layout Management: A Proposed Framework

Supermarkets manage thousands of products, dynamic demand patterns, and rapidly changing store layouts. Traditional manual processes for inventory control and layout updates are time‑consuming and error‑prone, especially as organizations scale. While digital twin technologies have proven valua-ble in manufacturing and logistics, their application in supermarkets re-mains limited. This paper proposes a conceptual framework for enabling DT‑supported supermarket inventory management and store layout optimi-zation within 3D store model contexts. The practical applicability of the framework is illustrated by being analysed in the case of a real supermarket environment. The paper concludes with conclusions, implications and fu-ture directions for research and practice
