Rating and Evaluating The Quality of Mobile Apps Related To Endometriosis Disease Using The Mobile App Rating Scale (mars)
Endometriosis is a persistent inflammatory condition affecting women of reproductive age, impacting fertility, and causing regular pelvic pain. Timely and advanced management of endometriosis is crucial for ensuring optimal health protection for affected women. Embracing new technologies, particularly mobile apps for monitoring endometriosis, presents a promising strategy. The primary aim of this paper is to analyze a set of selected mobile apps designed specifically for monitoring endometriosis. The Mobile App Rating Scale (MARS) was used to evaluate a set of endometriosis management mobile apps on both the Android Google Play Store and the iOS App Store. The functionalities of these apps were studied and analyzed based on MARS’s different sections. A comprehensive MARS evaluation was conducted on 25 endometriosis management mobile apps, comprising 12 Android and 13 iOS apps. This analysis, conducted by four testers, included a thorough assessment of functional and technological features using MARS’s 23 questions and five separate parts (aesthetics, functionality, information, etc.). This research could assist in identifying areas of endometriosis care that need more focus for a complete resolution and serve as a guiding reference to adhere to standards and make efficient use of mobile technologies. The goal is to create apps for endometriosis management that are user-friendly, safe, high-performing, and intelligent, meeting the needs of women, healthcare professionals, doctors, and policymakers.
