Electronic Health Records In The Undergraduate Education of Healthcare Professionals
This study analyzed the integration of electronic health records (EHR) into the education of undergraduate healthcare students. A systematic literature search identified 15 relevant studies published between 2013 and 2025. These studies examined the impact of EHR exposure on undergraduate students in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry, in terms of students’ perceptions, confidence, knowledge, and competencies. The results indicated positive effects on students’ education but also highlight challenges that hinder the implementation of EHR-related education, such as educators’ resistance due to limited knowledge or nega-tive perceptions, high operational costs, and the lack of formal recommendations supporting EHR exposure as a core component of undergraduate education pro-grams. Additionally, further research is required to evaluate the effectiveness of EHR training in improving the competencies of undergraduate healthcare stu-dents.
